Street Surgery – Stechford Road

I recently held a street surgery in Stechford Road, here’s a copy of the feedback I sent to residents.

Dear friend

I was in your street recently, conducting one of my weekly street surgeries. Sorry if I missed you. I thought you might be interested in what residents told me about the big picture nationally and locally:

Of the changes the Government is making,

  • 55% are most worried about the government plans to raise VAT and petrol prices
  • 40% say there is the right amount of police but 60% say there is not enough

The top priorities people wanted sorted out in the street and the local area were:

  • Travellers getting onto land – make the site more secure.
  • Parking on the pavements
  • Keeping residents up-to-date with planning processes and applications.

We will now contact the relevant city council officers and make sure local concerns are tabled at the next Ward Committee.  I’ll use the feedback on national issues to guide my work in Parliament.  You can follow this at www.liambyrne.co.uk.

‘Commons on your Corner’ – Resident Meeting, Thurs 4th Feb

I’m holding my monthly residents meeting at Cameronian Hall, Bromford Drive on Thurs 4th February at 7.00pm. Are you free to come and have a cup of coffee and a chat about what’s going on, on the Bromford?

My residents meetings have always given residents a chance to let me know what needs sorting where you live – and a chance to air some views about business at Westminster.

By popular request, I’m inviting officers from West Mids Police to listen to policing concerns.

Hope to see you there!

Liam speaks to the media about our campaign against police cuts - Shard End's no 1 priority

Cllrs Ian Ward, Marje Bridle and John Cotton, and I recently conducted one of our regular surveys across the ward, asking people to list their top three priorities for action.

Here’s the results; percentages refer to the number of respondees citing the priority.

1. Tackling anti-social behaviour – 23.3%

2. Cutting crime -21.2%

3. Improving roads and pavements – 20.5%

4. Dealing with litter – 18.6%

5. Better youth facilities – 11.42%

6. Reducing graffiti – 4.89%

Others issues mentioned include tackling drugs, cutting trees back, more bins, more police on streets, better street lights, and keeping cars off grass verges.

We have now tabled these priorities at the local ward committee, and have written to the Council and police asking for them to set out plans on our priorities. Thanks to everyone who took part in the survey - we will keep you up to date on our campaigns over the months to come.
