But it also helps our economy. People paying taxes in is much better than having people on the dole and getting benefits.
The Tories failure to get people back to work is driving up the benefits bill by £12.6 billion. That’s £500 for every single family in Hodge Hill.
To pay for their welfare waste they are cutting support such as tax credits for working families, who have played by the rules and done nothing wrong. The Government’s Welfare Reform Bill is a leap in the dark for families as we don’t know how childcare will work for families under the new system.
The Government has got to call a halt to its unthinking attack on Britain’s childcare. Millions of Britain’s parents feeling the squeeze desperately want to work – but literally can’t afford to without help with childcare.
30,000 women have already given up on work because childcare ‘reforms’ mean they’re no longer better off in work.
We have the second highest unemployment in the country. I don’t want to see anyone having to give up work because they can’t afford childcare.
As Shadow Minister for Work and Pensions I am fighting these cuts – But I need your help. Please take 5 minutes to answer my survey on how your family will be affected by the changes by clicking here.
Slightly tangetial, but I’ve thought for some time that universal child benefit can encourage some people to have more children, just to finance a comfortable life without work. Why not scrap universal child benefit and replace it with some form of subsidey for child-care. This would make work a more attractive prospect financially and prevent unecessary births. Just my 10c worth!
Because of the development of Nansen Primary School the preschool education facility that had been opperating for 30 years under the proffesional care of Rose Ahmed and her team, had to close. As chair of Nansen Preschool I lead a group of volunteers to look for alternative premises where we could continue this vital work. So far we have not succeeded because we have not got the capital that is required. We investigated the possibility of The Bromford Public House but can go no further with this venture because we are child care providers not business people. The mine field of legislation added to the impossibility of grants for early years voluntary services have put a pause on our venture, but we still want to give the service that we are good at in a community where this service is badly needed.
I know this is not about child benefits – but there is a link. I work for ‘Sense’ in Birmingham and my major concern is with the cuts to benefits and services to disabled people in Birmingham. The people I support are deafblind, so rely on the organisation to be a ‘voice’ for them. In Birmingham on ) October 22nd there is a rally in Birmingham called ‘The Hardest Hit’. I would encourage that MPs and there staff become involved in this to show there to support to people who desperately need to keep their funding and care packages.
Many thanks for the continued work that Liam and all his team continue to do to represent the needs of the people.

I think more flexible work needs to be made available for parents who work. Parents do need help with child care costs.
All children have a right to a good education, the government should facilitate the schools to meet the demands of its pupils.
Youngsters out of school need to be in education, training or work; three options ONLY. People who commit offences must be punished and prisoned longer . If they are still a danger to society after their sentence is over they should remain in custody; the priorty is to keep the public safe.
University costs should not go upto £9000, from £3000. Costs should follow inflation.
Energy prices should increase with inflation, not zoom up.

Dear liam,I have to say the statement above is not stating how your party intends to solve problems, the people know and tell you,but goverments are gutless and simply do as the E.U tell us what to and how to do their bidding,so untill there is a clear positive/determined action stated,I see our Country lumbering/lurching foreward, leaving our Childrens hopes and asperations dashed forever, people are not stupid, they reconise meaning less apologisefrom the like’s of Ed Miliband, instead need truth, meet and learn with the like’s of me.’
For a Fulltime mum Childcare costs can be £200 + per week with only part o that being reimbursed by tax credits. They would get more than £200 on benefits if you include schollmeals, nhs medication, etc. Most people feel they are being penlised for working because those scrounging off the estate get so much free in addition to their benefits, they are worse off woking. This Government and previous ones encourages people to be lazy then they become ynhealthy and get illnesses and get all their treatments free on the NHS. SOMETHING has got to change in this cycle.
A while ago no one had any hand outs and managed to get childcare sorted and worked. Other than UK does any other government help with just about everything? I would really like to see the new credit to unify all the benefits in as soon as. People are just lazy and need to seriously look for a job, admit it is hard but to openly say I am better of living on handout which hard working people pay into!! Liam as a shadow for DWP you should be fighting with the PCS to keep the civil servent in employment etc.. but you never really talk about the slashes that Labout made and are now continuing with the coalition to the DWP.
